Alesha Dixon & Dame Kelly Holmes represent Garmin at party displaying new marine tech

Garmin showed off new marine technology fit for crew and owners alike at its beat yesterday event, which took place last night at the Old Truman Brewery in London and was graced by celebrity ambassadors Alesha Dixon and Dame Kelly Holmes, amongst others.

We tried out the company’s new quatix® 5 watch, which provides extensive boat connectivity through connecting with compatible Garmin chartplotters and other devices to stream data straight to the watch, including speed, depth, temperature and wind.

Building on its legacy fēnix® 5 marine watches, the new watch also provides performance metrics for any water sports. This would suit guests who are keen to track their fitness whilst on board, with sports such as paddle boarding, swimming and canoeing just a few of the activities watch-users can track.

Garmin also displayed its new navigation solutions range, which includes the GPSMAP® 8424 MFD. A chartplotter/sonar combo device, this integrates various sonar technologies as well as autopilot, connectivity, apps, engine data and multi-media onto one screen- a time-saver for busy Captains and crew.

Party-goers had the chance to test out all Garmin’s new marine products released over the course of this year, with ‘Garmin gurus’ on hand to explain any new features. With a promising 2017 range, we look forward to seeing what else the company has in store for superyacht customers in 2018.
