It’s been a long time since Olympia residents and visiting boaters have had a fuel dock in downtown — 1999 to be exact. But that’s all about to change when the new fuel dock opens at Swantown Marina in late July.
When Swantown Marina was permitted and built in 1983, the Port of Olympia anticipated the need for a marine fueling facility and infrastructure was included in the construction for the eventual addition of a fuel dock at the end of the public accessible A-dock. They chose the Swantown site in order to provide convenient, deep water, all weather location from which to fuel vessels up to 100 feet in length. To facilitate construction of a fuel dock in the future, the fuel float portion of the dock was widened and strengthened for fueling operations. Additionally, extra pilings were installed and fuel line raceways were constructed.
According to the port, there will be a “soft opening” of the fuel dock in late July to test everything and work out any issues. From there, they’ll have a grand opening in August to celebrate the completion of the new fueling station.
